Prayer During the Day & Night Prayer
PRAYER DURING THE DAY
The following can be used at any time of the day.
Preparation
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
My heart tells of your word, ‘Seek my face.’
Your face, Lord, will I seek.
Praise
Psalm 27.10
We praise you, O God, we acclaim you as the Lord; all creation worships you, the Father everlasting. To you all angels, all the powers of heaven,
the cherubim and seraphim, sing in endless praise: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Short readings
I, John, saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.’
Revelation 21.1-4
Jesus said, I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live for ever.
John 6.51a
Prayers
You may wish to offer prayers for those on your heart, for the communities you belong to, and for those in need.
Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.
The Conclusion
May God who made both heaven and earth bless us.
Amen.
NIGHT PRAYER
The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end.
Amen.
Psalmody Psalm 91
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
and abides under the shadow of the Almighty,
Shall say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my stronghold,
my God, in whom I put my trust.’
For he shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
He shall cover you with his wings
and you shall be safe under his feathers;
For he shall give his angels charge over you,
to keep you in all your ways.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.
Scripture Reading
You, O Lord, are in the midst of us and we are called by your name; leave us not, O Lord our God.
Jeremiah 14.9
Responsory
Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.
For you have redeemed me, Lord God of truth.
Preparation
Keep me as the apple of your eye.
Hide me under the shadow of your wings.
Prayers
You may wish to reflect on the day and commend to God all those on your heart and those with no one to pray for them.
Visit this place, O Lord, we pray, and drive far from it the snares of the enemy; may your holy angels dwell with us and guard us in peace, and may your blessing be always upon us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.

The Conclusion
In peace we will lie down and sleep;
For you alone, Lord, make us dwell in safety.
The Lord bless us and watch over us; the Lord make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us; the Lord look kindly on us and give us peace. Amen.
