Special Activities for Lent

ASH WEDNESDAY 7.00pm Ashing and Communion

Soup, soup!!
Traditionally during Lent we give up something that we enjoy – most often something of the eating variety that we discipline ourselves to do without for the six weeks, only to take it up again with vengeance at Easter!
So if you have given up chocolate biscuits, or cake, or some such other delicacy, you will be ready to eat more soup.Over a five week period – 12th, 19th, 26th March, 2nd, 9th April, we will be serving soup at lunchtime, 12noon – 1pm, in the Parish Room (no having to walk up the hill to church!). ALL are welcome to come along, and bring a friend!; proceeds will go the Alnwick and District Food Bank, which also supports families in Shilbottle.

Also during Lent, this time on Wednesdays, Christians Together in Alnwick are serving soup lunches in St James’, Pottergate, from 12noon – 1pm. We are all welcome to be there. Each church takes a turn at providing the lunch; St James’ Shilbottle will be providing and serving the soup on 27th March.

Several groups will meet during the five full weeks of Lent before Holy Week begins. Some will be in Shilbottle and some in Warkworth. You are invited to sign up (in Church) for whichever one suits you best. The ones here will meet as follows:
Mondays: 11am at 33 Tyelaw Meadows
Tuesdays: 1pm (after the Lent Lunch) in the Parish Room
Wednesdays: 7pm in Farriers Rise (ring for 575705 for directions)
Taking part in one of these groups would be a good way for adults to explore what it might mean for them to consider being confirmed.
